Technical Equipment

QTRAP 6500 System:
The QTRAP 6500 System (AB SCIEX) is a mass spectrometer with a hybrid analyzer comprising a Triple Quadrupole (QQQ) analyzer and Linear Ion Trap (LIT). It is equipped with a Turbo V ion source which enables Electrospray Ionization (ESI) as well as Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization (APCI).
For LC/MS/MS analyses, the QTRAP 6500 system is coupled to a 1260 Infinity Binary LC (Agilent). In Shotgun Lipidomics analyses, the samples are infused via the TriVersa NanoMate (Advion), a chip-based infusion system for the generation of Nano-ESI.
The QTRAP 6500 System is additionally equipped with a SelexION interface (AB SCIEX) for Differential Ion Mobility Spectrometry.
The QTRAP 6500 System is used for the targeted quantification of lipids (Targeted Lipidomics).

TripleTOF 6600 System:
The TripleTOF 6600 System (AB SCIEX) is a mass spectrometer with a Quadrupol-Time of Flight (Q-ToF) analyzer. The system provides high-resolution mass spectra with high mass accuracy. As with the QTRAP 6500 System the ionization is implemented by ESI or APCI.
The 1260 Infinity Binary LC system as well as the TriVersa NanoMate infusion system (see QTRAP 6500) can be coupled to the TripleTOF 6600 System.
The TripleTOF 6600 System is used for non-targeted lipid profiling (Non-Targeted Lipidomics).

Devices for Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC):
For TLC analyses several devices of CAMAG are available at the Lipidomics Facility: Using the Linomat 5, samples can be semi-automatically applied to TLC plates. The TLC Scanner 3 allows the quantification of lipid bands on the TLC by densitometry. The TLC/MS Interface enables the coupling between TLC and mass spectrometry. Lipid bands are automatically extracted, and the extract is directly infused into the ion source of the QTRAP 6500 for further characterization.

7890A/5975C GC/MSD:
The 7890A/5975C GC/MSD system (Agilent) is a gas chromatograph coupled to a mass selective detector. The system allows Electron Impact Ionization (EI) as well as Chemical Ionization (CI) and enables simultaneous Selected Ion Monitoring (SIM)/Scan acquisitions.
