Opening of the new CECAD Research Center

May 2, 2013

The cluster of excellence CECAD enters into the second funding period with promising results. Over 400 researchers from the University, University Hospital and the Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and for Neurological Research as well as the DZNE form the close-knit, international and interdisciplinary team at CECAD. CECAD is searching for the underlying causes of the aging process and aging-associated diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes, stroke, kidney failure or cancer. The cluster’s vision is to make a collaborative effort to devise new, cross-discipli nary therapeutic approaches to the treatment of these disorders. Why do people age? Why are aging-associated diseases steadily increasing? In an aging society the investigation of these questions has a high relevance. Successful modern top-level research is based on close-knit collaboration and communication. The concept of the new building provides the unique opportunity to match all CECAD research groups in spatial proximity, combined with approach to the latest molecular research methods and to create a worldwide unique center of aging research through the close vicinity of the Max Planck Institutes.
